Joanna Nichols is an independently licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who received her Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Alabama, and her Bachelor’s degree from Huntingdon College. She has worked in a variety of settings and has experience treating mental health conditions, substance use disorders, and relationship problems. She has worked with individuals, families, couples, and groups, and is skilled in treating both children and adults.
Joanna uses a systemic approach to help her clients, which focuses on their individual needs and how they are impacted by their environment, their relationships, and their own personalities. She believes that every person has unique strengths that can be used to help move towards positive growth. She uses components of cognitive-behavioral, psycho-motor trauma focused, solution focused, and narrative therapy to meet client’s needs. With couples, Joanna has experience using Emotion-Focused Therapy and is working towards specialist certification in that area.
