Prior to pursuing a career in counseling, Mounir earned 45 years of experience serving in Administrative, Academic, Research, and Industrial roles in the Mechanical Engineering Field, retiring in 2017 from his position as Chair, Professor, and Director of Power and Energy Systems Laboratory, Mechanical Engineering Department, Washkewicz College of Engineering, Cleveland State University. During this period, Mounir co-authored a book in 2012 (ISBN 978-1-4398-3006-2); was awarded (3) U.S. Patents, externally funded over 6 million dollars in research, provided thesis supervision of over 60 Master and Doctoral Students, and contributed to over 110 research profiles and publications in prestigious journals and conferences proceedings.
During his career, Mounir was especially sensitive and dedicated to reducing gender disparities impacting his field by providing advocacy, educational support, and opportunities for women pursuing careers in Engineering. After his retirement, Mounir shifted his focus towards serving others seeking mental health care. He has gained a variety of experiences, working at different agencies in the state of Ohio as a qualified mental health specialist and therapist, including providing group substance abuse treatment at an IOP level of care. He uses an eclectic approach to counseling, primarily drawing from DBT, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Schema, Solution Focused, and Person-Centered Therapeutic techniques to best meet client needs.
Mounir empowers others by guiding them towards uncovering their strengths, motivations, and resources that will ultimately help them achieve their goals and build the confidence and self-trust they need to maintain them long-term. He believes that developing a collaborative relationship with his clients, their families, and others who may be involved in their care system is an integral part of the therapeutic process. Fostering resiliency through hope, gratitude, creativity, cultural sensitivity, empathy, and compassion are just some of Mounir’s values and strengths as a clinician. Mounir demonstrates positive leadership, promotes a team-based work environment, and strives to represent the agency in the most favorable light, not only within his role as a counselor but with how he conducts himself in all areas of his life.
This clinician is currently under the supervision of Margaret Selander LPCC-S, LICDC.
