Life-Changing DBT Therapy

Are you or your loved one struggling with impulse control, negative behaviors, self-harm, or thoughts of suicide?  DBT® therapy will help you discover a life worth living.

What is DBT Therapy?

DBT® stands for Dialectical Behavior Therapy.  Comprehensive (or fully adherent) DBT® therapy is a structured approach to mental health counseling involving weekly individual therapy, weekly skills training group classes, a self-reported diary card or daily journal, a weekly consultation team meeting for DBT® therapists on the team, and the availability of phone coaching.

DBT therapy is often used when traditional forms of therapy don’t work, when the person is suffering from very high distress, or when there have been thoughts of suicide or self-harm

Can DBT Therapy Help You?

Mindfully’s DBT® therapy is effective in helping people who struggle with emotion regulation, difficult relationships, feelings of hopelessness, or suicidal thoughts and behaviors.

Unlike many other DBT® therapy providers, Mindfully offers a fully adherent program. This means that when you participate in our complete DBT® plan, you will benefit from all the aspects of DBT® therapy that make it effective: individual therapy, skills training, a therapist consultation team, and phone coaching with your therapist outside of sessions to help you practice your skills.

Mindfully is one of the region’s leading DBT® therapy providers.  In fact, Mindfully even trains other mental health agencies in DBT® therapy.

Let us help you find happiness and a fulfilled life.

How Does DBT Therapy Differ From Traditional Therapy?

One of the most common frustrations with traditional talk therapy is feeling like you gain insight during a session, but it doesn’t translate into behavioral change outside of the counseling session.

However, DBT® therapy is often more effective than traditional talk therapy because we teach you skills and provide you with tools to help you learn to cope with intense emotions, enhance interpersonal relationships, and overcome negative behaviors.

Who Can Benefit from DBT Therapy?

DBT® therapy is appropriate for adults and teens.

In our DBT® program, we teach adults and teens practical skills such as distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

Additionally, the modular framework of our counseling enables our therapists to address a range of issues while still providing clear structure.  As a result, we are able to address the diverse needs of adults and teenagers as they navigate the complexities of life.

What is Fully-Adherent DBT Therapy?

Mindfully’s fully-adherent Adult DBT® Program helps you learn skills and apply them to your daily life.  This comprehensive approach incorporates:

  • Weekly individual therapy occurs with a highly-trained clinician.
  • Participating in weekly Adult Skills Training Classes, where you will learn a host of skills.
  • Keeping track of a diary card to record your moods and behaviors.
  • Access to phone coaching with your therapist.  This is a component of the comprehensive program, where you have the opportunity to contact your therapist to practice and apply your skills outside of counseling.

What is Informed DBT Therapy?

You and your Mindfully therapist may also choose to apply a “DBT®-informed” treatment approach instead of the fully adherent approach. A DBT®-informed treatment will be less structured than the fully adherent DBT® program, but will still follow key elements of DBT® principles.  In a DBT®-Informed treatment plan, the therapist will adopt some modules and elements of DBT® therapy, but not all aspects.

Why DBT Therapy is successful

DBT is often used when traditional talk therapies have not worked, particularly in cases of severe distress or when there are thoughts of suicide or self-harm.  Research shows that the benefits of DBT® therapy tend to last over time, helping individuals maintain their progress and reduce the likelihood of relapse.

DBT® therapy generates positive success in four main ways:

  1. Structured Support: DBT® therapy offers clear guidelines and expectations, providing a stronger sense of stability.

  2. Focus on Measurable Outcomes: DBT® therapy encourages using journals or diary cards to track daily behaviors and results.

  3. Group Skills Classes: The group component of DBT® therapy provides valuable social support and offers a space to practice new skills alongside others facing similar challenges.

  4. Consultation Teams:  Just like specialist doctors will use consultation groups to ensure they provide best-in-class care, your DBT® therapist at Mindfully will be able to lean on the Mindfully DBT® Consult team for advice.  The therapist never shares your name or any personal information.  But they can use the consult team to get general advice.
