Hello! My name is Derek, and I am a Clinical Resident and graduate student completing my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Some courses I have completed covered group therapy, family relations, and lifespan development. Outside of classes, I acquired a Certificate in Catholic Bioethics through the Institute of Catholic Culture. Some areas I am familiar with include:
- Religion and faith
- Emotional effects from chronic illnesses such as Chron’s, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and Traumatic Brain Injury,
- Anxiety and Phobias
- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
- Depression
- And life adjustments based on events within our control, such as retirement, or outside of our control, such as being left-handed or having synesthesia.
When I work with you, my first priority is to give you the dignity and respect you deserve. I am familiar with techniques from Reality Theory, Cognitive-Behavioral Theory, Solution-Focused Theory, and Motivational Interviewing. I like incorporating faith, imagination, and the arts (music, painting, television, video games, etc.) into sessions when possible.
Thank you for letting me walk with you!
