More About Lydia Everly

Hello, my name is Lydia Everly and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) (weeks away from officially being Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC)!), and currently a Provisional- Registered Art Therapist, working towards my ATR License. I live by the phrase, “Do what you Love, and Love what you Do!” and with my Christian upbringing and love for art, I was focused on a path to help others by using art! I attended Lourdes University of Sylvania, Ohio for my Bachelor’s of Art in Art and Psychology, with a concentration in Art Therapy. From there, I moved onto Ursuline College of Pepper Pike, Ohio for a dual Master’s of Art in Counseling and Art Therapy.

As my professional career has blossomed over the last decade, I have been able to work in various places from community-based settings to private practice, and from early childhood to veterans and those struggling with dementia. While each experience has given me important pieces to my professional puzzle, I have found myself passionate about working with children and adolescents. I believe with my artistic strengths and innate capability to build that therapeutic relationship, I can provide a caring, but also multi-faceted (and fun!) approach to guide healing and growth.

I tend to begin treatment by meeting where the client is at, using a strength-based, person-centered approach along with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance, as well as providing psychoeducation for the parents, family, and support system. With my faith as my core, I promote openness, honesty, empathy, and without judgement.

Lastly, what is Art Therapy? When working with children with various behavioral and mental diagnoses, I believe using the one universal tool is most beneficial giving them a voice! Talk therapy can be overwhelming or even embarrassing to children to say those hard things out loud. Art, even if you aren’t good at it, can be their voice. I love to create a homey and calming atmosphere with music as we work together on those hard topics. It’s not about what the end piece looks like, it’s about how it makes you feel when you’re finally understood. Those moments are what I’m excited and privileged to experience with you!
