My approach is to respect that you are the expert in your life. This is your journey, and you will choose the direction we take in treatment. If you place your trust in my approach, we will work as a team to identify and leverage your strengths to promote resilience in your life. My goal is to help you achieve your mental health goals by using evidence-based methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness-based approaches, Motivational Interviewing, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). We will work collaboratively to determine which approaches work best for you and to create a treatment plan that not only helps you achieve your goals but also incorporates the objectives and interventions you prefer.
Experience working with youth, adults, and the elderly has helped me better understand the different stages of life and the challenges each presents. I enjoy working with clients in the LGBTQ+ community, addiction recovery, mental health recovery, those with PTSD, and the homeless community.
My clinical internship and employment in youth homeless services were a humbling and enlightening experience in which I learned about many issues and traumatic events that homeless and fostered youth face. I have also provided in-home family therapy, applying the Functional Family Therapy approach, focusing primarily on communication patterns and on improving interpersonal understanding by teaching families to communicate in healthier, more effective ways to overcome challenges. My most educational experience was working in addiction recovery, where I began to understand more about my loved ones and their struggles. I believe we cannot help those we do not understand.
