More About Patricia (Jessie) Lin

Hello! My full name is Patricia Jessie Lin, but I go by Jessie. I am currently in my first year of the Master of Social Work program at the University of Kentucky, pursuing the clinical track. I was born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, and earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

I have always been interested in mental health, where every aspect of understanding human emotions and behavior excites me. My dream is to become a therapist and help others navigate life’s challenges with empathy and be a vessel of support.

Last year, I had the opportunity to shadow at a private practice in Knoxville called Middle Path, which specialized in group therapy using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for children and teens ages 8 to 15. I absolutely loved the experience and gained many invaluable skills that I continue to use in my everyday life and interactions.

In my free time, I love being outdoors, trying new foods (I am a big foodie!), and traveling. A fun fact about me is that I lived in Taiwan for a year and a half to learn Mandarin. As someone of Chinese descent, it has always been important for me to connect with my cultural roots. My hope is to use my language skills and cultural understanding to better advocate for communities that may not have the same access or opportunities in the mental health field. I am so excited and looking forward to having my placement at Mindfully in the Fall semester!
