Welcome and thank you for choosing to read over my bio.
My name is Teresa Payton. I am a LPC practicing online DBT therapy in Ohio. I have worked in the mental health field for over 3 years now. I graduated from Kent State University with a BA in Psychology and a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I’m now a Licensed Professional Counselor and Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant. Throughout my experience, I have worked with individuals and families struggling with a wide range of concerns and specific needs, including individuals with both mental health and substance use struggles.
My philosophy is that we all can learn skills to achieve personal growth. My job as a counselor is to teach the individual how to use these skills. When clients seek my help, my outlook and goal are to create a safe, authentic, compassionate, and judgment-free environment. Having a “safe space” for clients to discuss emotional and substance use struggles freely helps promote growth. My philosophy is that not every theoretical approach fits everybody; therefore, I adapt to the client.
As the client, you and I are on a team striving to achieve your therapeutic goals. You have the destination, and I am your GPS, discussing obstacles in your way.
I am very passionate about supporting the struggling population with addictions, suicidality, suicidal ideation, anxiety, and depression. I also love working with clients who experience chronic pain and illness. Finally, my clinical approach combines a client-centered approach with dialectical behavioral techniques. I have experience with Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT therapy) and other therapeutic modalities. I have attended numerous DBT trainings and have helped co-lead DBT trainings and skills classes for adults.
Currently, I am on the DBT team RO-DBT team, and the chronic illness team.
This clinician is currently under the supervision of Joshua Johnson.
