More About Jennifer Van Hook

Hello!

I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in the state of Ohio. I received my B.A. in Psychology at Ohio Dominican University in 2010 and my M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Wright State University in 2015. My first six years of professional work was in the community mental health setting, and I am now in the private practice setting here at Mindfully.

I have advanced experience and training to work with individual who have SPMI (Severe Persistent Mental Illness), Dual-Disordered (mental health & addiction), major depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, PTSD (acute and chronic/complex), Dissociative Disorders (including DID), domestic violence and other relationship problems, grief, and difficulty with day-to-day functioning. I have also been involved in setting up and initiating Dual-Diagnosed Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and Aftercare treatment groups for individuals struggling with both mental health and addiction. I have also been a liaison to local courts working with probation officers and judges in drug court programs and involved in treatment teams with Children’s Protective Services (CPS) cases.

Many individuals, at some point in their life, experience hardship and challenges in one or multiple life areas. It can be hard to deal with these issues and all the thoughts and feelings that come with those experiences. I know it can make us feel very vulnerable to talk to a stranger about your most personal experiences, feelings, and thoughts. I offer a counseling environment that is non-judgmental, safe, and nurturing to assist in healing during these difficult times. I see the counseling relationship as a mutual partnership between the client and the clinician to work together to increase knowledge/understanding, learn skills and coping mechanisms, and find solutions to problems. I believe that counseling should encompass a holistic view addressing not only mental health symptoms but a person’s daily needs, functioning, and physical health.

I am very passionate about helping others. I believe that our experiences shape who we are and they can impact our development, understanding of ourselves, and our personal relationships. I encourage clients to learn and utilize coping skills and to develop a support system that can give support in their day-to-day lives. I enjoy being a teacher and an advocate for my clients. I hope through my clinical role to spread more understanding about mental health and addiction to reduce the stigma that has been placed on struggling individuals. I hope this message reaches you and you feel that working with me could be beneficial. I hope we can work together to make lasting changes in your life!
